At The Russian Firebird, we import high quality Russian lacquer boxes and sell them at reasonable prices.  Our boxes come straight from the former Soviet Union to the consumer -- we skip the middlemen and pass the savings on to the customer.

It all started the winter of 1994, when I spent a month in Kiev, Ukraine and came across some great little pieces of art, Russian lacquer boxes.  They were incredibly crafted, beautiful boxes that were quite inexpensive.  I bought 12 boxes that winter.  One of the boxes that started my collection was a beautiful portrayal of a scene from the story of the magic firebird.

In subsequent trips to Russia and Ukraine I studied the art of Russian miniature painting that so intrigued me -- I read many books, talked to artists, and looked at all of the boxes I could find, be they in museums, in galleries, or in the workshops of artists.  I also found great people to represent me in the former Soviet Union when I couldn't be there and great artists from whom to commission works.  The Russian Firebird was created.  Throughout, the business has been about more than making money -- we've enjoyed ourselves importing great art, we support wonderful artists, many of whom have been having a tough time making ends meet, and throughout we have donated 25% of all profits from our business to non-profits.

Since our beginnings ten years ago we have imported a great number of traditional lacquer boxes and boxes we've specially commissioned with Jewish themes.  We have supplied lacquer boxes to gift shops, museum stores, and at art fairs.  For four years now we've been offering our boxes direct to the public at wholesale prices at www.RussianFirebird.com.

We always want to hear from customers -- please contact us by e-mail (info@russianfirebird.com) or call us toll-free (866-244-9853) with any and all questions, suggestions, anything.
